The mighty fingers of preschoolers need to be developed and nurtured with care during their formative years. As Early Years educators you have a profound role in building, strengthening, and monitoring the development of their fine motor muscles. With this in mind, we have created these beautifully illustrated teacher checklists to help you map the fine motor development of your young learners.

These checklists will serve as your guide as you observe children, identify their challenges, then create opportunities to enhance fine motor development. What’s more, the additional self-assessment checklists will facilitate children in monitoring and celebrating their own progress. With easy-to-understand ‘I can’ statements, agency is enhanced, as pre-schoolers develop understandings of their own learning journey.

Use these checklists to:

  • Understand the developmental milestone continuum for learners aged 1-6
  • Identify challenges and create possibilities
  • Document concerns
  • Encourage learners to identify their strengths and weaknesses through self assessing
